Dance company 'Ballo' is a non-profit, non-governmental organization whose mission is to promote and develop contemporary dance in Montenegro. For many years, 'Ballo' was the only company of this kind in the country which made our mission even more demanding.
'Ballo' was founded in 2000. The company was led by two choreographers: Tamara Vujošević Mandić and Slavka Nelević who are still active and have advisory roles now. Currently, the company has 15 members, who have different backgrounds in dance and performing arts. Some members completed elementary ballet school and they further developed the classical ballet technique during the years spent in the company, while others have more experience in acting and performing arts.
It's important to emphasize that contemporary dance is not very developed in Montenegro so our mission is to contribute to its development by creating contemporary dance performances.
Over the years, we produced nine projects/performances, performed at many stages, and participated in different dance workshops. We performed at all stages in Montenegro, several stages in the region (festivals in Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina), and several times outside the region (in USA, Italy and China). 'Ballo' was honored to receive three times the award of 'Bijenale crnogorskog teatra' for our projects/performances 'Cocoon', 'Maybe in a café' and 'Scream'.
In addition to this, we worked with international choreographers Tanja Skok and Mikael Honesseau on two dance performances, and Cie Twain in different workshops.
